Bacon in the Oven

Today, I have a simple and basic “recipe”to share with y’all. Quite a few years ago, I learned I could bake my bacon in the oven, and I wouldn’t have to worry about the grease burns! Ouch! I love that my bacon cooks up nice and crisp with this method – and mostly flat and straight! Plus, it’s easy to make for just one person or, in my case, a crowd!

For those who already know about cooking bacon in the oven, this is elementary. But, for those of you who have never tried it – be prepared to fall in love! It could not be simpler! I like mine a little more on the crisp side, so I bake mine for the longest time listed …. sometimes a bit longer if I buy the thick-cut bacon!

Can you cook bacon in the oven?

Yes, yes, yes! A thousand times, yes!! I highly encourage you to do it! You don’t have to babysit it, and you don’t have to worry about getting splattered with grease.

What to serve with Oven-Baked Bacon

I suggest all of the typical breakfast foods you like. Some of our favorites are to serve it with eggs, pancakes, waffles, in a breakfast sandwich, with a bowl of grits or oatmeal,

But, don’t limit yourself to just breakfast! Some of my favorite soup recipes (try my Chicken Bacon Ranch Soup or Loaded Baked Potato Soup) and casserole recipes (try my Loaded Potato and Chicken Casserole or Twice-Baked Potato Casserole) include this tasty porky treat! Heck, I even have a few desserts that include bacon – like my Ode to Elvis Poke Cake, Elvis Puddin’ Cookies, or Elvis Banana Split.

Baking Bacon in the Oven FAQs

➡️ At what temperature should you bake bacon?

Set your oven temperature to 400°F.

➡️ Do you have to flip bacon in the oven?

Nope! When I told you this way of cooking bacon way easy – I meant, it was EASY!! However, you can flip your bacon over halfway through cooking of you prefer – but it is not necessary!

➡️ How long can you keep cooked bacon?

FRIDGE: Properly stored in an airtight container or zip-top bag for up to 4-5 days. I suggest adding wax paper or parchment paper between the layer for easier use.
FREEZER: Properly stored in an airtight container or zip-top bag, up to 1 month. I suggest adding wax paper or parchment paper between the layer for easier use.

➡️ Can I keep the bacon grease?

Yes! You’ll want to transfer it to a food-safe container, like a grease can or crock.
FRIDGE: Store leftover bacon grease for up to 6 months.
FREEZER: Store leftover bacon grease for up to 9 months.

➡️ Can you reheat cooked bacon?

Yes! You can choose a stovetop, oven, or microwave.
MICROWAVE: Place bacon strips on a paper towel on a microwave-safe plate and cover with another paper towel. Microwave on full power for 20-30 seconds or until heated through and the bacon reaches your desired crispiness.
OVEN: Place the bacon strips on a baking sheet lined with aluminum foil or a cooling rack and bake in a 400°F oven until the bacon is heated through and reaches your desired crispiness.
STOVETOP: Place the bacon strips in a skillet over medium heat and cook until the bacon is heated through and reaches your desired crispiness.

Recipe Tips

  • If you do not have a cooling rack, you can line your baking sheet with aluminum foil and place your bacon directly on the foil. Do not overlap the edges. Proceed as stated in the recipe.
  • You must choose a baking sheet with a rim so the grease does not fall into the oven and potentially start a fire.
  • When making bacon in advance to reheat at a later date, it’s best to undercook to your desired crispiness slightly; that way, it can finish cooking and reach your desired crispiness with the final reheating.
