🛒 Ingredients & Substitutions

  • green grapes – Use red grapes if that’s what you have.
  • lemon juice – Swap lemon juice for lime juice or even just water.
  • 3-ounce packets of flavored gelatin – I used cherry, orange, lemon, lime, and berry blue. Use sugar-free Jello for a lighter option.

✨ Variations

  • Use just one or two gelatin flavors to match a party theme
  • Try red, black, or cotton candy grapes for a twist
  • Freeze the coated grapes for a frosty treat

🔥 Tips

  • Don’t dry the grapes after rinsing. The moisture helps the Jello stick.
  • Coat the grapes in small batches to keep the powder from clumping.
  • Want less mess? Use toothpicks to dip and coat the grapes.

❓ FAQs

➡️ Can I freeze Sour Patch Grapes?

Yes! After making them, freeze them in a single layer, then store them in a sealed bag for up to 2 to 3 months.

➡️ How long do they last in the fridge?

Store in a sealed container for 7 to 10 days.

➡️ Is this a healthy snack?

It’s definitely a fun way to eat fruit. The sugar content will vary depending on the gelatin you use.

➡️ Can I make these ahead of time?

Yes! They’re even better after chilling for a few hours. You can make them a day in advance for the best texture and flavor.

➡️ Can I mix the gelatin flavors together?

You can, but the colors may blend and look muddy. For the best visual effect, keep each flavor separate.

➡️ What kind of gelatin should I use?

Any flavored gelatin dessert mix will work – Jello brand or store brand. Just make sure it’s the regular kind, not instant pudding.

➡️ Can I use frozen grapes?

No, fresh grapes work best. Frozen grapes will release too much moisture and won’t hold the coating well.

➡️ Do I need to chill them on a baking sheet?

It’s the easiest way to spread them out, but you can also use a plate or tray lined with parchment paper.

➡️ Can I use other fruit besides grapes?

This method works best with grapes because of their firm, smooth skin. Berries tend to get mushy.

Equipment

Ingredients

  • 1 package cherry gelatin dessert mix, 3 ounces
  • 1 package orange gelatin dessert mix, 3 ounces
  • 1 package lemon gelatin dessert mix, 3 ounces
  • 1 package lime gelatin dessert mix, 3 ounces
  • 1 package berry blue gelatin dessert mix, 3 ounces
  • 1-1/2 to 2 pounds green grapes, removed from stems and rinsed
  • ¼ cup fresh lemon juice, lime juice or water

Instructions

  • Empty each flavor of gelatin into its own large resealable zip-top bag.
  • Add the rinsed grapes to a large bowl. Pour the lemon juice (or lime juice or water) over the grapes and toss with clean hands until everything is evenly coated and damp.
  • Divide the grapes between the bags of gelatin. Seal the bags and shake until the grapes are fully coated in the powder.
  • Remove the grapes from the bags and place them on a clean plate or baking sheet. Discard the leftover powder.
  • Chill the coated grapes in the refrigerator for 1 to 2 hours, or until the gelatin sets into a candy-like crust.
  • Serve and enjoy!

Notes

  • Store in the fridge in a sealed container for up to 7 to 10 days, or freeze for up to 2 to 3 months.
  • Don’t dry the grapes after rinsing. You want them damp so the gelatin sticks well.
  • For a fun twist, try freezing the coated grapes for a frosty, chewy treat.
  • Use any gelatin flavor you love. You don’t need all five – even one or two is great.
  • Want less mess? Stick a toothpick in each grape, dip it in lemon juice, and then roll it in gelatin powder. Chill and eat them right off the toothpick, or pull them off to serve.
  • Great for birthday parties, holiday treats, or as part of an easy snack dish platter.
