I don’t know about you, but growing up, I loved those “fluff salads” that so many of us remember from our childhood. I’m not sure if it was a 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s thing or what it was. I just knew I loved them.
Are you familiar with fluff salads? One of the more popular ones is Watergate Salad – or Pistachio Fluff.
This Cherry Chiffon Salad is another one of our family favorites. It sometimes goes by a few other names like Cherry Fluff Salad, Pink Fluff, or Pink Stuff. But, no matter what you call it, it’s delicious!
One of the things I love about this salad (or any of the fluff salads) is that it can be served as a side dish or a dessert! Seriously, how many dishes can you do that with? Is there anything better in the heat of summer than having a cool salad or dessert? Your choice!! 😍
Since this salad recipe is made with a few pantry items and a tub of frozen whipped topping, it’s an easy dish to throw together anytime you need something quick, easy, and delicious! I always have the ingredients on hand, and I can make a batch in no time at all!
Although I don’t have nuts listed, sometimes I throw some in just for the heck of it. Also, almonds or pecans make a great addition if you want to add some!
The only thing left to do is serve it in a pretty serving bowl and watch it disappear because your family, friends, and guests will love this Cherry Chiffon Salad! If you plan on serving it in a more formal setting, individual dessert glasses make a pretty presentation.
Cherry Chiffon Salad: Ingredients & Substitutions
For this Cherry Fluff Salad recipe, you will need …
Ingredients
- cherry pie filling – store bought or homemade is fine. If you choose to use homemade you’ll still need approximately 20-21 oz.
- pineapple tidbits – You can also use crushed if you prefer.
- sweetened condensed milk – adds sweetness and helps thicken the salad.
- miniature marshmallows – you can use the plain white marshmallows, or use pastel!
- frozen whipped topping – original or lite, both work fine.
Cherry Chiffon Salad: FAQs
I would consume this within 2-3 days. After that, it tends to start getting watery and breaking down any longer than that.
Absolutely! That’s one of the great things about this recipe besides how fast and simple it is. You can easily make this a day ahead.
I don’t recommend it. It tends to get watery and separate when thawed.
Store it in the refrigerator. You can either store it in an airtight container or use your favorite decorative serving bowl with cling wrap over the top to seal it up airtight.
Recipe Tips
- For a thicker, more cheesecake-like flavor, you can mix in one 8-oz. block of cream cheese to the mixture.
- Not a fan of pineapple? Try mandarin oranges instead.
