Notes

  • Because this recipe isn’t cooked in the oven, some people are uncomfortable using the flour (cookie mix) raw. If this is the case, you can heat treat it. To do so, put the cookie mix in a bowl and microwave it for 30 seconds. Stir, and repeat for a total of 1-1/2 to 2 minutes, always using 30-second intervals. It should reach 160°F.
  • Do not let the milk scald or boil, you just want it hot.
  • The almond extract sets the flavor apart and complements the sugar cookie flavor perfectly! However, you can substitute vanilla extract for the almond extract if you prefer that flavor. Or you can leave the extract out completely.
  • If you like sprinkles throughout the fudge, then add it in when you add in the cookie mix.
  • Allow the fudge to come to room temperature before cutting it.
  • To achieve clean and smooth fudge slices, dip a sharp knife in hot water, then wipe it dry before each cut. This prevents the fudge from sticking to the knife and ensures clean edges.

In the United States, (I’m not sure if you live here or not), we can buy prepackaged Sugar Cookie Mix at the grocery store in the baking aisle. Here is a look at one brand – https://www.walmart.com/ip/Betty-Crocker-Sugar-Cookies-Cookie-Baking-Mix-17-5-oz/10311486?athbdg=L1600&from=/search

If this is not available where you live, you can try making up a batch of sugar cookie dough MINUS any egg or wet ingredients as a substitute. Of course, I’ve never tried this, but essentially this is what is in the prepackaged stuff.
