Easy Apple Cake – Only 3 Ingredients!

Are y’all ready for some Fall baking?! I am!! I have been dreaming about pumpkin and apple treats for weeks now. As you may have already noticed from some of my recent posts, I have given in and started baking. Of course, it’s still hotter than you know what here in Phoenix … nevermind that though … let’s do some baking!

I wanted to share this Easy Apple Cake last year, but it’s one of those recipes I never got around to making.  It only has THREE ingredients and it’s perfect for Fall baking! I like to make it look a little fancier with a dollop of sweetened whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon, but that it totally optional and up to you! I’ve linked my Homemade Sweetened Whipped Cream in the recipe below in case you would like a homemade version. A scoop of cinnamon or vanilla ice cream would be great also! Of course, it’s great by itself also! 🙂

Ingredients

  • 1 box yellow cake mix (see note), 18.25 oz.
  • 1 can apple pie filling, 21 oz.
  • 4 eggs
  • Sweetened Whipped Cream, optional
  • Cinnamon, optional

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Spray a 9×13-inch baking dish with cooking spray and set aside.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine all of the ingredients with an electric mixer until thoroughly combined. The mixer will help break up the apple pieces. Pour into the prepared dish.
  • Bake 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center tests clean. Allow cake to cool slightly before serving.Serve with sweetened whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon, if desired.

Notes

  • Just a note about this recipe – You will NOT need the ingredients listed on the cake mix box. Just use the cake mix, pie filling and eggs.

I tried this tonight and the center came out a little gooey, wasn’t sure if that was gow it was supposed to be or not. Than I came back to this page to see what yours looks like and it did not look like me, nor did the batter.

    1. Jamie says:

So sorry that happened! A few more minutes in the oven should have fixed the cake if you ever run into that problem again.

  2. Megan says:

If I were to make my own pie filling to add to this how many cups would I need?

    1. Jamie says:

Equivalent to 21 oz – or almost 3 cups.

Can I use white cake mix?

  9. Laura says:

The recipe calls for 18.25 oz boxed cake, I was only abe to find 15.25 oz. Does that change the amount of apple pie filling & eggs I use? Hoping to make tonight! Thank you in advance?

    1. Jamie says:

Hi Laura! It will still work out just fine. You might want to check it a few minutes earlier while it’s baking just to be sure it doesn’t overbake the cake. Hope that helps and enjoy the recipe! 🙂

I love this! So simple for something so yummy! I like recipes like this because I don’t always have time to bake. Recipes like this help me make something sweet for my family from time to time, or to take to a potluck or bake sale.

I use sugar free cake mixes, so apple pie filling has too much sugar…so what do you recommend…….cut up apples cooked…what do you suggest?
