Southern-Style Green Beans

Have you noticed that I don’t have many side dishes here on Love Bakes Good Cakes? I’m on a mission to fix that and get a few of them on here! This recipe is one of my favorite side dishes and definitely need to be on the blog!

Southern-Style Green Beans

These Southern-Style Green Beans are sure to become a family favorite! The green beans are cooked long and slow to give you the BEST tasting green beans you will ever eat!!

Cook: 1 hour 30 minutes
Total: 1 hour 40 minutes

Ingredients 

  • 6 slices bacon, diced
  • 2 lb. green beans, ends snapped off and long beans snapped in half
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 2 cups water
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon seasoned salt
  • ½ teaspoon pepper

Instructions 

  • In a large pot, brown and crisp bacon. Remove bacon to paper towels leaving the bacon grease in the pot.
  • Add remaining ingredients to pot. Bring to a boil; reduce heat to medium-low and continue to simmer for 1-1½ hours, stirring occasionally.
  • Drain beans. Check for seasoning and adjust if necessary. Stir in bacon.

Notes

  • Got leftover ham? Dice small and use in place of bacon.

    Ok, These are just totally the green beans I grew up with! I haven't had them in years and years! Time to revisit my childhood with this dish!! Thanks for sharing!!

    Yum! This is one of my favorite ways to have green beans. Sometimes I throw in a few tiny new potatoes, then all you need is a steak and some garden fresh tomatoes and dinner is done!
