Strawberry Margarita Recipe
Strawberry season is just about here in Eastern North Carolina and I am so ready to enjoy all things strawberry! I’m planning all kinds of recipes to enjoy ranging from salads, and desserts, all the way to drinks. Starting with today’s recipe – Strawberry Margaritas!
One of my absolute favorite cocktails is margaritas in almost any flavor. And, this strawberry version ranks pretty high on my list. One taste and you’ll see why!
This is a popular drink when we host parties. I love that this recipe easily makes big batches that can be made ahead so I can spend more time with my guests.

Strawberry Margarita: Ingredients & Equipment
To make this Strawberry Margarita recipe, you’ll need …
Ingredients
- fresh strawberries – this is what makes your strawberry margarita a strawberry margarita and not just a regular one.
- tequila, triple sec – these are your alcohols. Blanco tequila tends to be the standard, but you can also use reposado. Use whatever brands you prefer and what you think tastes the best.
- lime juice – fresh squeezed is best. Period. Don’t use bottled juice, please!!
- agave syrup – adds a touch of sweetness to your drinks.
- margarita salt – is used to intensify the taste of your drink. If you don’t like salt, you can use sugar or omit the rimming of your glass altogether. Note that this is NOT the same as regular table salt which tends to be too salty for margaritas.
- ice – keeps your drink cold, but I’m guessing you already knew this one! 😉
- additional fresh strawberries and fresh limes – will be used for garnish, if you choose. The lime wedge also goes around the rim of your glass giving something for the salt to adhere to.
Equipment
- measuring cups – for accurately measuring ingredients.
- knife and cutting board – for preparing your strawberries and limes.
- blender – used to blend your ingredients and create the perfect margarita. You’ll use this appliance regardless if you are making your margarita on the rocks or frozen.
- pitcher and glasses – for serving your drinks.

Strawberry Margarita: FAQs
They are not the same! Margarita salt has a coarse grain making it ideal for rimming your glass. It helps intensify the flavors of your drink and the light crunch makes your drink experience more pleasurable. Regular table salt is too salty for rimming your glass and it doesn’t make for a pleasant drink experience – don’t use it.
If you don’t like salt, you can dip the rim in sugar, or leave it off altogether.
This is the perfect drink to make ahead for a party. Just whip up a huge batch (minus any ice and garnishes) and place it in a pitcher. Keep it in the fridge until your guests arrive. Give it a good stir before serving and pour it over ice. Garnish if desired.
It depends on your tastes. Blanco will give your margarita more of a true agave flavor while reposado is for those who want a smoother taste.
To make a Frozen Strawberry Margarita
If you prefer your margarita frozen, it’s just as easy as the on the rocks version! Let me tell you how …
- To make this a frozen margarita, use 1 pound of frozen sliced strawberries in place of the fresh strawberries. Proceed with the rest of the recipe as written. Note that no foam will come to the top with a frozen margarita.
