Have you noticed that I don't have many side dishes here on Love Bakes Good Cakes? I'm on a mission to fix that and get a few of them on here! These Southern-Style Green Beans are one of my favorite side dishes and definitely need to be on the blog!

As you know, I'm participating in Bacon Month with a few of my bloggy friends, so it was the perfect time to share these green beans! Be sure to check after the recipe in this post to see the bacon posts my friends posted today!

Southern-Style Green Beans

Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 1½ hours
Yield: 6-8 servings

Ingredients 
  • 6 slices bacon, diced
  • 2 lb. green beans, ends snapped off and long beans snapped in half
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 2 cups water
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp. seasoned salt
  • ½ tsp. pepper

Instructions

1. In a large pot, brown and crisp bacon. Remove bacon to paper towels leaving the bacon grease in the pot.

2. Add remaining ingredients to pot. Bring to a boil; reduce heat to medium-low and continue to simmer for 1-1½ hours, stirring occasionally.

3. Drain beans. Check for seasoning and adjust if necessary. Stir in bacon.

  1. Yum! This is one of my favorite ways to have green beans. Sometimes I throw in a few tiny new potatoes, then all you need is a steak and some garden fresh tomatoes and dinner is done!
