Slow Cooker Split Pea Soup

This delicious and healthy Slow Cooker Split Pea Soup is a cinch to put together. Serve it with a crusty bread for an easy, affordable meal.


  • 1 lb. dry split peas, rinsed and drained
  • 1 meaty ham bone OR 2 cups ham, diced
  • 1 large onions, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 carrots, chopped
  • 2 stalks celery, chopped
  • 1 bay leaf
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 6-8 cups chicken stock or water


  1. Place all of the ingredients in a 5-Qt. or larger slow cooker. Cover and cook on LOW for 8-10 hours or HIGH for 4-5 hours, or until the peas are tender.
  2. If using a ham bone, remove from the slow cooker. Shred ham into bite-size pieces then return the ham to the slow cooker and stir to combine. Discard the bone.
  3. Taste and season with more salt and pepper, as needed.
  4. Remove the bay leaf and serve.
