How to create a clickable link in blog comments - Easy HTML coding that ANYONE can do

I'm going to be honest with you - I used to be jealous of other bloggers (ok, maybe I still am to a point) .... there are so many cool sites and other bloggers seem to know all the tricks. Y'all know what I'm talking about - we've all been on that learning curve! Some of us are still on it! Sometimes, I sit and wonder how a blogger did whatever on their blog ... Or I find myself wondering if I can do something like ____ (fill in the blank). Lately, it seems I'm finding out a whole lot about blogging ... and html codes. To think 6 months ago, I knew nothing. Nada. Zilch. Zip.  I'm a firm believer in sharing your knowledge ... just like a great recipe, you don't want to keep it to yourself - you want to share it with everyone! I'm far from being a blogging expert and I know very little about html codes .... but I like to share things I've picked up along the way - because that's what friends do ... They don't watch other people suffer when their life could be easier. I'm hoping this helps someone ... anyone. (Bueller ... Bueller?!) Have you ever wondered how bloggers leave those clickable links in the comments of other blogs? Did you know leaving those clickable links can also help bring other people to your blog - just by putting yourself  "a click away"? Did you know it's super easy to do? Today, you can find out just how easy it is to do ... with a little html coding. I keep the code copied on my desktop in a text document, so it's easy to access. Whenever I want to use the hyperlink, I simply copy and paste it! Sometimes I change the words of the link to say what I want it to say (like my linky party - when I visit people to thank them for linking to my party, I usually include a link that says "All my Bloggy Friends") ... and - I don't have to memorize any codes! Copying and pasting is simple, right?!

To create a text document, right click an empty spot on your desktop and select "New" from the menu ... 

From the new menu, select text document. 

You can save the code anywhere you want, just make sure it is easily accessible for you. If you use another app or program for all your notes, that is fine to use also. For me, this is the easiest place - so that's what I'll be using for this tutorial. Highlight and rename the document something to help you know what it is. Double left click the document to open it. 

Copy and paste the following code into your new text document:

<a href="put the url of the page you want to be directed to between the quotation marks">write what you want people to see here</a>

Change the red words to the url you want people to be directed to - like your blog homepage. Change the blue words to what you want people to see or read - like your blog name.

For example, if I wanted to send someone to my homepage, this is how I would write it:

<a href="http://www.lovebakesgoodcakes.com/">Love Bakes Good Cakes</a>

Be sure to click file on your text document and save it before closing the window.

Now, whenever you want to add a link to comments, use this handy dandy little code. It'll be saved right on your desktop!

Here is an example of a comment I left on Linda's blog - over at With a Blast (do check out her blog if you haven't - she has tons of amazing stuff - especially this Best EVER Chicken Pie - YUM!!) ... In her post, she mentioned something about her son's experience that day ... and it reminded me of the Geico commercial with the squirrels. Linda lives in South Africa - I highly doubt she would have known what commercial I was talking about, so I linked the YouTube video in the comment for her to watch if she wanted.  I copied and pasted my code in her comments, then changed the url from "http://www.lovebakesgoodcakes.com/" to the YouTube video url and the part you see (>Love Bakes Good Cakes</a>) when you read it, to "the Geico commercial" (so it would be part of the sentence). 

This is exactly how I wrote the comment on Linda's blog:

Too funny about your son! It reminds me of <a href=" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aB4AXOioCOU ">the Geico commercial</a> here in the States! Your recipe looks easy and good! I love that you used fruit cocktail in your cake, too! :)

Easy peasy! Right?!

You could also use it after you type out your blog comment as a signature. Here is an example of what you would type:

I love your recipe. It is perfect for Fall and the cooler weather. I pinned this to try soon. :)
