Because you're my friends

Everyone has their quirks, right? I figured since we're friends, I'd share some of my (I've been told - weird) food habits with you ....

1. I like my French Toast sprinkled with powdered sugar and drizzled with orange juice - not maple syrup. Pancakes and waffles can have syrup, but not French Toast. I know y'all are wanting to try it now! It's so yummy!

2. I like to eat saltine crackers with butter .... or American cheese slices folded into 4 pieces - for 4 crackers. (If you've never tried it, it fits the cracker perfectly). For some reason, this reminds me of my childhood. I'm not sure if other people do/did this, and I don't do it often, but it seems like such a "treat" to me when I do!

3. I don't salt anything at the table - except watermelon. Do other people even salt watermelon? We don't even have salt and pepper shakers on our table - ever. Well, except maybe for company so we can look like normal people. ;)

4. The only way I'll eat cottage cheese is with tons of pepper. Always have ... Probably always will.

5. I like to mess with people (and sometimes, it doesn't go as planned). I once went to a Chinese restaurant with a friend and decided I would try to gross her out by eating a baby octopus .... Totally backfired. She kept telling me not to do it and I put the baby octopus in my mouth and bit down ... The texture was too much for me. I wanted to throw up ... obviously she could tell by the look on my face and started laughing - LOUDLY! Of course that drew the attention of anyone within 5 miles of the restaurant our section of the restaurant. I was trying to be polite and didn't know what to do - so I ended up having to discreetly spit the baby octopus into my napkin. She laughed and laughed - and made  fun of me for failing! Needless to say, I was done eating after that. That was the only thing I have ever eaten (and I couldn't even eat it) grosser than lima beans. Seriously. Disgusting. {shudders}

6. I tend to eat all of one thing on my plate before eating something else on my plate. I think it's the OCD in me. I know I'm not alone on this - I've seen other people do it!

7. I can't drink coffee without some sort of creamer/sugar or flavoring in it. I'm a light-weight, what can I say?

8. When I eat french fries, I like to put malt vinegar on them. I thought it was weird until I tried it - now, I'm hooked!

9. On the occasion when I use ketchup on my fries, I don't just use a blob of it and dip ... I lay out all my fries and put a line of ketchup down each fry. I'm sure it drives people crazy to watch me. (Oh, and I am considerate enough to be the last one to use the ketchup if it's bottled - so no one is waiting on pokey me to put ketchup on each and every fry).

10. When we go out to eat, if I order any kind of sandwich, I always order them without any condiments or sauces - and if I want condiments or sauces, I ask for the packets or cups on the side and add it myself. I hate sloppy sandwiches and inevitably if I let them put it on, it's always a huge mess!

I'm sure I have other things I do differently than most people - I'll save those for another post in the future. I know I'm not the only one who has weird food habits - share one of yours in the comments! Please, let me know I'm not alone ;)

I hope you enjoy!

  1. I'm pregnant now so my weird eating habits have only increased. But, even non-preggo I crave things like a madwoman...

Such as- saltines and Chocolate milk. Not dipped into the choco milk, just always together like they're best friends or something.

I can make a "meal" out of an entire jar of green olives. Even sip on the brine they're jarred in like it's a fine brandy if nobody's around to judge me.

And last but not least, I dip my pizza in ranch dressing. Gosh, all of these "quirks" are horribly unhealthy. I need to go eat a vegetable now. :)

  2. I really do want to go try the French toast with orange juice now!

The only quirk I can think of right now, as I have not finished my coffee, is saltine crackers with miracle whip - mayo will NOT do.

  3. Growing up, I did the 4 squares cheese too! Now I just do the grown-up version by slicing it off the hunk and eat it off the knife! I only salt tomatoes at the table and I also dislike messy sandwiches, but usually ask them to go light on the condiments. The octopus story is hilarious, most people won't even try it. Have a great weekend!

  7. We always salt our watermelon! Sounds crazy to some people but it's rather like putting salt in baked goods . . . brings out the sweetness! You're not weird at all!
